The year is 1947. Egor Goncharov, a former soldier of the penal battalion, and now a thief, is forced to hide from the revenge of bandits and from the police. He arrives in Kaliningrad, where he seeks help from a comrade-in-arms, who is soon killed. The traces of the crime lead to a certain Hauptmann, the shadowy leader of the local Abwehr saboteurs, with whom the German girl Elsa is also connected, whose fate Egor cares about.
